About this objectAn iron shield boss. There are four large flange rivets with flat circular heads through a relatively broad flange; above this, the shield wall is slightly concave to the carination; the cone is relatively flat and topped with a tall apex with a small circular head. It was found with an inhumation burial accompanied by a scramasax, belt buckle and tag, a knife and a set of scabbard beads. These are typical finds from a pagan Saxon warrior burial. It was found at St Ippollitts. Hertfordshire Historic Environment Record entry.
