The museum has spaces where we display temporary exhibitions, using objects from our own collections or objects borrowed from other museums. The large exhibition gallery is downstairs, off the Discovering North Herts gallery, while there is a smaller space – The Arches – in the upstairs Terrace Gallery.

The Exhibition Gallery

We have a large flexible space downstairs devoted to temporary exhibitions, reached through the Discovering North Herts gallery. This is where we show things borrowed from other museums and galleries as well as objects from our stores that are not part of our permanent displays.

The Arches

The Terrace Gallery has a display area alongside the arched windows of Hitchin Town Hall, hence the gallery’s name. The photograph above shows three of the arches before the gallery space was fitted out for use. Artists and makers may submit work for consideration for exhibitions lasting 4 to 8 weeks. There is an application form (PDF); you can also collect a paper copy from the museum.
