About this objectA copper alloy belt chape of fifteenth or sixteenth century type. It has stamped decoration and a loop for a pendant (now lost). Found unstratified in excavations at Broadfield, now part of Cottered parish.
Cloth or leather belts were fashionable at this time and were decorated with metal strap ends like this one to stop them from fraying and making them hang down.
