About this objectThe footbal collection of North Hertfordshire Museum stems from a museum which ran in Hitchin between 1956 and the mid 1970s. Set up by Hitchin Town Secretary Vic Wayling the museum may have been the first football museum in the world. Vic collected material from all around the world until his death. Following his passing the collection transferred to North Hertforshire District Council. The strength of the collection lies in the 1950s - 1970s era but the museum service has continued to target football as an area of focus.

In the Summer of 2003 Hitchin Museum staged an exhibition on Hitchin's football collection. Staff set out to collect new material for this exhibition and sent out letters to notable football teams across the country. This donation of twenty one objects stems from Liverpool Football Club.

Among this collection is: Two souvenir supplements from the Liverpool Echo, one relating to the teams success in the 1977 season and another to the 1986. Two club pennants including one from a match between Arsenal Ladies Football Club and Liverpool FC Ladies on 9 December 1995.

Two CDs of Liverpool F.C. related music including football chants. Five editions of the Anfield review 1978-1980, vinyl record of The Pride of Merseyside and Don't Care Much Anymore performed by Joe Fagin, in commemorative sleeve.

Testimonial programmes one of Steve Heighway (1981) and one for Roger Hunt (1972).

Official match day magazine for August 2000 (Liverpool vs Parma). Official souvenir programme for 1987 Challenge cup final Arsenal vs Liverpool. The collection also contains a selection of programmes from when Liverpool were playing away matches. This includes a 1978 match against Aston Villa and a match against Wolves.
