About this objectBlack leather football boots with white laces, four studs on the sole area and two studs on the heel. White stitching on the top of the boot.
These were worn and donated by Stanley Matthews in his Stoke City F.C. days. Stanley Matthews was an icon of football in the 1900s and is still said by many to be one of the greatest of all time. As well as his immense skill he had remarkable longevity. He retired aged 50 and even then, was said to have remaked that he retired too early. His longevity was perhaps aided by his rigorous training and health routines. Stan was a teetotaller and had an almost vegetarian diet, and even fasted on Mondays.
Stan was also involved in boot design, and in 1951 helped the Co-op design a pair said to be lighter and more flexible than any before.
