About this objectFramed Photo of a football match 1914 in which 11 brothers from Hull played against 11 brothers from Scunthorpe and their fathers acted as linesmen. With original typed labels from the Football Museum of Hitchin.
The Charlesworth family of Scunthorpe had laid down the challenge to face any team of brothers in a football match. The Charlesworth team was made of Alex, 44, Tom, 42, Charles, 39, Jim, 37, George, 35, Alfred, 32, Herbert, 30, Frank, 26, Edgar, 25, Walter, 21 and Harry, 19, supported by proud parents Solomon and Mary-Ann Charlesworth.
The Coverdale family of Hull accepted the challenge running out 3-0 victors. The story is tinged with tragedy as three Charlesworth brothers and a son of another brother were killed during The First World War.
