About this objectEtching, St Botolph’s Bridge, No 2, by F L Griggs. 1976 centenary edition of the plate in its fourth state (dated February 1937), in which the originally octagonal etching has been enlarged to fill a rectangular space in portrait orientation. Printed on pale buff hand-laid paper, plate initialled and dated lower left in body of wall. Numbered 28/30 in pencil.
A reprint of some of Griggs’s more important works was made in 1976 for the centenary of the artist’s birth. They were made using the original plates, which had been keep by the artist’s widow, Nina. This was the last etching he completed.
