About this objectConduct and Character, book by Joseph Hartley Wicksteed (1842-1919). Wicksteed was an engineer (president of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers) and an expert on William Blake, the poet and artist, about whom he wrote several books. He was an apprentice to Joshua Buckton of Leeds, later taking over the management of Joshua Buckton & Co on the owner’s retirement. He was the inventor of a range of machine tools.
His brother Charles was the founder of the children’s playground equipment manufacturer that bears the family name.
