About this objectThe Wide Garden and other poems, by Herbert Tremaine. Tremaine was the pseudonym of Maude L Deuchar (1887-1956). She was originally from Glasgow but arrived in Letchworth Garden City with her husband Norman Douglas Deuchar in 1917 and lived at 122 Wilbury Road. She was a pacifist, and H G Wells praised her 1917 ‘The Feet of the Young Men’ as the ‘best war novel’. She seems to have stopped writing after 1926 for unknown reasons.
