About this objectAn outer coat, part of the uniform at Princess Helena College. The coat was tailored by Russell James of London and contains both a made in Britain and made in Austria labels.
Princess Helena College operated from Temple Dinsley, a large house with grounds, in Preston, near Hitchin. The boarding school was originally formed in London and relocated to its Hertfordshire home in 1935. The school closed in the summer of 2021. Museum staff were invited to Princess Helena ahead of its closure to look for objects which would help tell the story of the school in the future. This coat was collected alongside articles of uniform from 1935 to 2021.
For most of the school's existence, it was a single sex girls school. It accepted boys from 2019.
