Name/TitleLetter from Bessemer Old Boys Association to J.K. Gray
About this objectLetter from the Bessemer School Old Boys Association to new Bessemer School Headmaster J.K. Gray. The letter is dated 22nd September 1969 and invites Mr Gray to attend a meeting to meet the group. The group also offers Mr Gray the chance to become the Honorary President of their Association.
The Association relates to the school known as Old Hale Way School between 1940-1955, Bessemer School - named after Henry Bessemer of Charlton, between 1955-1974. The school also went by Hitchin School in its final years between 1974-1988.
When the school building was knocked down in October 1992 former student Bob Prebble was inspired to write a book on school history. He was able to write his book following appeals in the local press to find information and objects, like this letter. The book launch was staged on 9 November 2002 at the British Schools Museum in Hitchin.
