About this objectPhotograph of Bob Prebble, author of the local history book 'Before the paint was dry'. In the book Bob Prebble charts the history of his old school. The school was known as Old Hale Way School between 1940-1955, Bessemer School - named after Henry Bessemer of Charlton, between 1955-1974 and finally Hitchin School between 1974-1988.
Bob was inspired to write his book when his school building was knocked down in October 1992. He was able to write his book following appeals in the local press to find information and objects to help illustrate the history of the school. This photograph forms part of a 2021 donation of this assembled material.
