About this objectHertfordshire County badge, awarded to Audrey Jarvis of Old Hale Way School. The badge has some associated text, written by Audrey Jarvis. The text reads: Hertfordshire County Badge awarded for various things - can't remember what exactly. Think this was known as a bronze badge. Have a feeling there might have been a silver badge"
The school was known as Old Hale Way School between 1940-1955, Bessemer School, between 1955-1974 and finally Hitchin School between 1974-1988.
When the school building was knocked down in October 1992 Bob Prebble, a former student of the school, was inspired to write a book so as the history would not be forgotten. His book 'Before the paint was dry' was published in 2002, following Bob's appeals in the local press to find information and objects to illustrate the history of the school.
The badge was given by Audrey Jarvis to Bob Prebble.
