Name/TitlePhoto of St. Christopher and Child statue
About this objectPhoto of St. Christopher and Child statue in place at the Wilshere Dacre quadrangle garden. The statue used to be on the Hitchin School building until the school closed in 1988.
The school was known as Old Hale Way School between 1940-1955, Bessemer School between 1955-1974 and finally Hitchin School between 1974-1988.
When the school building was knocked down in October 1992 Bob Prebble, a former student of the school, was inspired to write a book so as the history would not be forgotten. His book 'Before the paint was dry' was published in 2002, following Bob's appeals in the local press to find information and objects to illustrate the history of the school.
The photograph forms part of the donation of objects that he assembled from the local community and used when writing his book. In this case, Bob Prebble took the picture himself.
