About this objectBlue envelope containing miscellaneous notes on the Amstrad that was used to manage the Hitchin Festival Booking system from the 1990s to 2019. The Amstrad computer used by the festival often attracted attention when customers were booking their festival tickets, due to its antique appearance.
Items include: The envelope itself, two stapled print outs of code used for the system, a Tom Lehrer leaflet with trouble shooting information written on the rear, a small paper carrying the letter head of the Queen Mother Theatre and another paper with information from 'KC' with typed text written in August 2016 and handwritten text in 2017.
This material, along with objects 2022.33 - 2022.39 relate to an Amstrad computer which was used to produce tickets for Hitchin Festival, until 2019. The computer made local headlines in July 2018 when Hitchin BID Manager Tom Hardy tweeted Lord Alan Sugar, founder of Amstrad, to say “Your Amstrad computer has been printing our Hitchin Festival tickets for 25 years! Still going strong with 50,000 tickets printed over the years. Is this a record?”. Lord Sugar replied “I can’t comment on the record but it must be close. Great machine. 0.00798p per ticket.”
