Name/TitleThree blank floppy disks and supplier note
About this objectThree blank floppy disks, each with original sleeve. 2022.36.2 and .3 are both in a Amsoft sleeve (object number 2022.36.7 and 2022.36.6 respectively). The other, 2022.36.4 is in a Maxwell sleeve 2022.36.5. This set was wrapped in a note from the supplier LuxSoft.
These floppy disks were purchased from the hard ware specialists LuxSoft for use with the Amstrad computer system that ran the booking system of the Hitchin Festival from the 1990s to 2019. The handwritten note from LuxSoft reads "2x Amsoft + 2x Maxwell All re-formatted and verified 100% So hopefully "Just the ticket" for you! Best" and was written by Malcolm Surl.
The floppy disks are part of a donation 2022.33-39 which includes the Amstrad computer set and various notes on how to work the antiquated machine.
The computer made local headlines in July 2018 when Hitchin BID Manager Tom Hardy tweeted Lord Alan Sugar, founder of Amstrad, to say “Your Amstrad computer has been printing our Hitchin Festival tickets for 25 years! Still going strong with 50,000 tickets printed over the years. Is this a record?”. Lord Sugar replied “I can’t comment on the record but it must be close. Great machine. 0.00798p per ticket.”
