Name/TitleFuture LuToN Public consultation invitation
About this objectAn invitation to public consultations surrounding the proposed expansion of London Luton Airport. Sent to the resident of Flat 7 Balliol Chambers, Hollow Lane, Hitchin. The invitation sets out the points for expansion as put forward by London Luton Airport Ltd, the owners of the airport. It invites the recipient to visit a consultation event and or documentation inspection venue to see and hear more about the plans which would affect them as residents living under the flight path. These consultation events operated between 16 October and 16 December 2019 and included North Herts locations such as Hitchin Town Hall on 5 November, Whitwell New Fellowship Hall on 6 November, Breachwood Green Village Hall on 25 November, Letchworth's Broadway Hotel on 26 November, Royston's Market Hill Rooms on 30 November along with other sites across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Its document inspection venues included the libraries of Baldock, Letchworth and Hitchin along with the District Council Offices in Letchworth.
London Luton Airport expansion is a controversial subject with some arguing for the benefits of increased traffic in the airport; job creation and support that the extra funds generated would created for Luton Council (The owners of London Luton Airport Ltd). Other such as Hitchin & Harpenden MP Bim Afolami argues in his election flyer for the December 2019 election (2020.5.1) for the prevention of the scheme. The argument against the airport is that it would increase flight noise and air pollution along with clogging rural roads with traffic.
The Covid-19 outbreak of 2020 put halt to the plans to expand the airport as the virus hit the aviation industry particularly hard.
