Name/TitleDecember election 2019 Labour Party election flyer (Hitchin & Harpenden)
About this objectA flyer promoting the Labour candidate for Hitchin & Harpenden in the December election of 2019, sent to the resident of Flat 7 Balliol Chambers in Hollow Lane, Hitchin. The December election of 2019 was dominated by the subject of Brexit and the argument around 'getting Brexit done' and the 'oven ready deal' of Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The issue of Brexit was incredibly divisive across the country and also within Hitchin & Harpenden. Peter Lilley the Conservative MP during the 2016 referendum backed leave whereas Hitchin & Harpenden voted to remain by 60.21%. Kay Tart the Labour candidate followed the nuanced national Labour approach to Brexit during the 2019 election promising a vote on a Brexit deal with the option to remain. Presenting herself as 'A new hope for Hitchin and Harpenden' pledging 'Truly affordable homes and social housing for all local people' 'fully funded education, health and social care services' 'Decisive action to tackle climate change' 'A transport service that runs for people not profit' and the vote on a Brexit deal with the option to remain.
Kay Tart came third in the race for election, losing 15.7% in her vote percentage.
