What is Archaeology?

Long denigrated as ‘the handmaid of history’, archaeology has been described as ‘the most basic science of all’. 

Why? Because it deals with humanity in all its guises and that aspect that make our species unique: our relationship with the material culture was make and use throughout our time on earth. It has always been so much more than the glittering treasures of Egyptian pharaohs or lost cities in the Andes.
