North Herts Museum School Sessions - Victorian Washday

School Workshop Session

Victorian Washday

  • History
  • Victorian

Watch your classes curiosity spark as they scrub, wring and lather just as the Victorians did.

Step back in time with our Victorian Washday workshop, where students will explore how domestic life has changed through the years. Using a timeline of real objects, they’ll trace the evolution of household items, learning how their materials and uses have developed over time – from irons, cameras to phones, and discover the differences between the past and present.

Then it’s time to roll up their sleeves! Children will get hands-on with Victorian laundry tools, trying their hand at rubbing and scrubbing and even making soap flakes just as families did. Students
