All aboard our ‘Portrait of a Town’ workshop that explores the transformative impact of the railway on Hitchin.
Join us for an engaging and lively session as we explore the painting ‘A View of Hitchin 1841’ by Samuel Lucas.
This workshop invites your students to delve into the history of Hitchin, discovering the lives of the people who called this town home during that pivotal time. As we examine the painting, we’ll discuss the hopes and aspirations of its residents, particularly as the arrival of the railway promised to change their future.
Through role play, participants will step into the shoes of these historical figures, hot seating their characters to uncover their personal stories and fates.
