As the Great War ended, a talented painter moved from London to Royston to enjoy the peace, quiet and slow way of rural life. 

Ernest H. Whydale spent the remainder of his life capturing the rolling countryside, working animals and local folk going about their daily lives. 

Royston Museum now holds the largest collection of Whydale’s work in the world, this talk will explore his prints and paintings, from personal caricatures to Royal Academy worthy works.

Talk by guest speaker: Rhi May (she/her) is an illustrator from Royston, Hertfordshire. She currently works as the Visitor Experience Officer and in-house designer for Royston Museum, creating visual materials and interpretation to bring people closer to history. Her personal practice focuses on design thinking theory, printmaking, and book arts.
