Do Local Historians Need to be Archaeologically Literate?

So much of what is published as ‘local history’ ignores the huge amount of archaeological data available for most places.

Worse, writers sometimes dismiss the prehistoric past – or, worse, anything before the Norman Conquest – as somehow mysterious and unknowable. This talk argues that anyone writing about small communities and places needs to engage with this data to understand the past more fully.
