Back in 1956, Vic Wayling, Secretary of Hitchin Town Football Club, opened a museum of football.
It was lauded by the press, with some declaring it ‘unique’ and the ‘first in the world’. For 20 years, until his death, Vic took in gifts from fans, players, officials, and anyone with an interest in the sport. Amassing a thousand items from around the world and all the way back to football’s early days.
This talk charts the history of this fascinating museum collection, how it came about, its star items, its oddities and issues and its future here at the museum.
