Polar Worlds – Kids Weaving Workshop
Weave your own icy wonderland!
Join artist Lucy Sugden for a weaving adventure inspired by the frozen landscapes of the North and South Poles. Lucy will show you how to use fibres and fabrics to create textures that look like snowy hills, shimmering ice, or frosty skies, using cool blues and a little sparkle.
You will weave your very own Polar World, using the fibres of your choice that best represent your icy land. To finish, you’ll decorate a card frame to surround your weaving before taking your frosty masterpiece home.
Suitable for ages 4-11
£10 per child
Don’t forget, you can present your ticket or receipt at our café on the day of the event to receive 10% off your order.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
About the tutor
Lucy is a woven tapestry artist who weaves from her studio in Letchworth Garden City. Her work is an exploration and development of process and fibres with light play and discarded fibres while sharing the beauty, tranquillity and needed balance she sees in local habitats.
It is important to Lucy to maintain a sustainable art practice by recycling and upcycling fibres, this has become an integral part of how she works and has a direct effect on design and size of a piece. Work is woven using good-quality waste fibres, either from a craft stash, a box at the back of the garage, or from yarn suppliers and rug manufacturers.
A member of The British Tapestry Group, The Wynd Gallery and various textiles associations Lucy regularly exhibits locally and nationally, along with delivering talks, workshops, and courses.
