The Commonwealth War Graves Commission- lunchtime talk

428 428 people viewed this event.

Join us for an engaging lunchtime talk exploring the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), from its origins to the present day.

This talk will trace how the Commission was founded in the aftermath of the First World War, its vital role during both World Wars, and its ongoing mission to care for and preserve war graves and memorials around the world. Discover how the CWGC established many of the cemeteries we recognise today in the 1920s, and how its work continues to commemorate those who served.

With a strong local focus, the talk will highlight war graves in the Hitchin area and share the stories of some of the men and women named on the Hitchin War Memorial. These personal histories will bring to life the Commission’s work and the lasting importance of remembrance.

A thoughtful and informative session, especially fitting for Remembrance Day, for anyone interested in local history, heritage and military history.

£7.50 per person

Don’t forget, you can present your ticket or receipt at our café on the day of the event to receive 10% off your order.
