Glowing Pumpkin Hoops – Kids Weaving Workshop

315 315 people viewed this event.

Light up your Halloween with a craft that shines when the lights go out! In this fun workshop designed for young creatives, children will weave their very own glowing Jack-o’-Lantern on a circular loom. Using traditional weaving techniques with vibrant orange wool and magical glow-in-the-dark yarn, they can weave their chosen pumpkin design and create a spooky or friendly face.

Designed for children aged 4–11 with some hands-on assistance from parents or grandparents, this workshop shows how circle weaving can be used in a playful way. Your child will learn how to weave in and out to construct their pumpkin shape; it’s not as simple as just weaving in a circle!

The finished pieces make wonderful, wall or window hangings to display at home and add a spooky glow to your Halloween decorations. All materials are provided.

Suitable for ages 4-11

About the Tutor: Lucy is a woven tapestry artist who weaves from her studio in Letchworth Garden City. Her work is an exploration and development of process and fibres with light play and discarded fibres while sharing the beauty, tranquillity and needed balance she sees in local habitats.
It is important to Lucy to maintain a sustainable art practice by recycling and upcycling fibres, this has become an integral part of how she works and has a direct effect on design and size of a piece. Work is woven using good-quality waste fibres, either from a craft stash, a box at the back of the garage, or from yarn suppliers and rug manufacturers.
A member of The British Tapestry Group, The Wynd Gallery and various textiles associations Lucy regularly exhibits locally and nationally, along with delivering talks, workshops, and courses.
