Queering History

The category and identity Queer has important meanings in the contemporary world but how far – if at all – is it justifiable to apply this label to those long dead?

Such practices are full of issues over imposing our interpretations onto individuals with no right of reply, but at the same time raise wider ethical questions about how we best serve the memories of such people and what historians can and can’t do.
