Poppy Field – Tapestry Weaving Workshop
In this introduction to the art of tapestry weaving, you will learn how to weave the shapes and textures of tall meadow grasses, before adding poppies, daisies or both to complete your piece.
Each participant will create a unique woven piece, choosing their own colours and composition. This is a simplified version of the process Lucy uses to weave her own meadow-inspired tapestries. During the workshop, Lucy will demonstrate each step and share a little of tapestry’s rich history, introducing you to this ancient art form.
Perfect for beginners and those curious to explore woven art, while being suitable for anyone wishing to further develop their weaving skills.
All materials and equipment are provided with looms prepared in advance so you can concentrate on weaving. Materials include a large selection of coloured wools to choose from, allowing your own colour palette.
Please note we will break for a half hour lunch and stretch.
No weaving experience is needed. For adults and ages 16+
£40 per person
Don’t forget, you can present your ticket or receipt at our café on the day of the event to receive 10% off your order.
About the tutor
Lucy Sugden is a woven tapestry artist who weaves from her studio in Letchworth Garden City.
It is important to Lucy to maintain a sustainable art practice by recycling and upcycling fibres. This has become an integral part of how she works and has a direct effect on the design and size of a piece. Her work is woven using good-quality waste fibres, either from a craft stash, a box at the back of the garage, or from yarn suppliers and rug manufacturers.
A member of The British Tapestry Group, the Wynd Gallery and various textiles associations, Lucy regularly exhibits locally and nationally, along with delivering talks, workshops and courses.
