Name/Title“The Corner Cupboard”, watercolour
About this object“The Corner Cupboard”, Winchcombe, watercolour by F L Griggs. The view is of a half-timbered building on Malthouse Lane, Winchcombe, looking towards Gloucester Street. It shows the Cotswold stone ground floor and gable end, with timber framing filled brick noggin above. The gable end is part of The Corner Cupboard Inn at 83 Gloucester Street, originally built about 1550 as a farmhouse. The timber framework of the building on Malthouse Lane is a conceit of the artist: the building has a clearly ancient Cotswold Stone first floor.
