About this objectAutomobile Association badge, chrome monogram with wings over, against yellow enamel background.
The Automobile Association was set up in 1905 to help motorists avoid police speed traps. Their 1907 guide book told AA patrolmen to salute a car that had a badge like this one. If the patrolman did not salute, it warned the AA member they were driving towards a speed trap. Patrollers saluted members until the early 1960s.
