About this objectOil on canvas. This work shows part of Hyde Mill, a mill in Ickleford which was demolished in the 1960s. Ratcliffe often walked across the fields from Letchworth to paint Ickleford. This painting was shown in William Ratcliffe's last exhibition at Letchworth Museum & Art Gallery in 1954.
Purchased with the aid of The Arts Council England/V&A Purchase Grant Fund; The Heritage Lottery Fund; and the Hertfordshire Heritage Fund
The reflections are cast in the pond next to what was Hyde Mill, a now demolished flour mill in Ickleford. Letchworth Museum held an exhibition of Ratcliffe's works in 1954, and a photograph shows him handing this painting in the gallery.
