This talk by Matthew Platt, Assistant Curator, looks at the museum’s football collection, most of which was given by Hitchin Town Football Club in the 1980s. The club’s former secretary, the well-loved Vic Wayling, began to collect football memorabilia in the 1950s, opening a museum in 1956. At the time, no other British or European football club was collecting these sorts of items and many were willing to part with objects that we now know to be important in telling the story of footballing history.
