The Woman and Three Babies: the story of an ordinary life and extraordinary death
2 September @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm£5
The fascinating story of the woman who resides in North Herts Museum.
Over 1900 years ago, a 40-year-old resident of Baldock went into labour a month early. Tragically, she gave birth to a baby that did not live. Worse, she continued in labour, but the second baby was in breach position and there was no-one to help her.
She died, in pain and alone, a day or two later. What nobody could have known is that there was a third baby, still waiting to be born. How could this have happened in a town where there were professional midwives and doctors who might have been able to help her?
Join us for a talk by Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews, to discover how forensic archaeological techniques can help uncover the sad story of this anonymous woman and her triplets.
