The Tiger Who Came to Tea
11 July @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
‘Sophie opened the door, and there was a big, furry, stripy tiger. The tiger said, “Excuse me, but I’m very hungry. Do you think I could have tea with you?”. Parents and children will all recognise these lines from Judith Kerr’s wonderful book, The Tiger who came to Tea, and this summer, the Tiger is coming to Hitchin.
The museum has borrowed an exhibition of Judith Kerr’s illustrations for the book from Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children’s Books. The exhibition includes a play version of Sophie’s kitchen, a reading corner, and of course, a friendly 5-foot Tiger. We’ll be running tiger-themed craft activities and story sessions over the summer holidays (details to be confirmed) and if you love tea, you’ll love our special Tiger who came to Tea themed afternoon teas, with stripy cakes and sandwiches.
There will be story readings of the book by one of our curators, Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews, at the following times;
11.30, 12.00, 12.30, 1.00, 1.30 pm.
