For the Love of the Game: Stories of sport, community, competition and disability in North Herts.

31 January @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

Sport can bring so much to our lives, like the joy of playing as a team or the thrill of competing in front of thousands. This exhibition gathers stories of parasport and disability in North Hertfordshire in a celebration of sport. Participants in this exhibition tell the story of how sports have helped them build a community and even in finding a new career. Whether competing at home in North Herts or around the world, there is so much we can gain from the love of the game.

As the stories in this exhibition show, when sport is accessible fantastic things happen. It can break down barriers and build a community with a shared love of rugby. It can challenge people to push themselves to new heights, like winning two national medals 25 years apart. Whether it’s judo, athletics or rugby, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The Exhibition runs in the Terrace Gallery from 31st January – 26th March.

Many thanks must go to the community and individuals who donated their time, knowledge and objects to make this exhibition possible. Without them there would be no exhibition.

This exhibition was produced with the support of Curating for Change. Curating for Change looks to increase the representation of Disabled individuals in museums. The curator of the exhibition, Freya Purcell, has recently completed a traineeship with North Herts. After being inspired by museums as a child, she hopes to pursue a career in curation and make collections accessible in new ways.
