Celebrating 80 years of Hitchin Art Club at North Herts Museum

Come and see past and present paintings from members of Hitchin Art Club, at North Herts Museum from 6 May to 18 June.

Many of the paintings by current members are for sale, starting from £35 up to £100. The museum will also be displaying archive material including photographs from the 1970s and 1980s, historical Art Club minute-books and other early ephemera.

Ros Allwood, Cultural Services Manager at North Herts Council, said: “This is a special collection of paintings and memorabilia from Hitchin’s long-running and significant local art club. There will be some scenes you’ll recognise and some from further afield as well as other artworks including still lifes and portraits.”

Hitchin Art Club was founded in 1943 by, among others, Vi Lewis, Mollie Hancock and Bob Waldock. The club is still very active, meeting every Tuesday evening at Hitchin Library. They hold two outdoor exhibitions a year as well as the main annual exhibition. The club is always looking for new members so get in touch… Hitchin Art Club.

North Herts Museum is located in Brand Street, Hitchin. Opening hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10.30 am- 4.30 pm and Sundays 11 am – 3.00 pm.

Both general admission and this exhibition are free.
